Hiatus communities are designed to combine the liberating feeling of space-efficient housing with inviting, modern design that naturally turns neighbors into friends. Beyond just a builder, Hiatus has been working with the city of Bend to evolve the code (e.g., scaling system development charges to home size) to make small living more financially feasible and widespread. Bend is not unique in having a housing supply that doesn't meet demand. But it is unique in having Hiatus Homes, which is doing real work to address this problem locally, and hopefully soon, nationally.
The small-living innovation that Hiatus Homes brings to Central Oregon is long overdue.
I soon found out the community is composed of a diverse group of people from all ages and all different professions. Fortunately, we have a park-like setting with two ponds and pathways that begs us to be outside. I would encourage anyone to try this lifestyle. You will be pleasantly surprised!
I was wondering what kind of people would want to live in a “small” space.
Just a half mile west of the Deschutes River and old Bend, we can easily walk or ride all over the Bend area. There are FANTASTIC views to the south and west. Windows and glass doors placed strategically on both levels allow all the light in that you want. I appreciate the design and utility of the finished garage, which can be used as extra living space. No need to waste precious time doing yard work! Our Hiatus Home has a native, high desert landscape design, utilizing drip sprinklers. If you are considering a new energy efficient home, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the latest Hiatus Homes Project!
The Roanoke home is just the right size for us. We love this new 2 bedroom, 2 bath, energy efficient home.
We've had a great experience working with Hiatus Homes - they are engaged, committed to quality sustainable design, and just nice people to collaborate with.
When we learned more of how the homes were built, saw how they were designed for low maintenance and how they were situated, we decided to purchase one. We opted for the full solar array. We produce more energy than the home uses, including charging our car. We enthusiastically recommend them as builders of advanced living spaces.
We first approached Hiatus as investors because we wanted to support net zero home construction in Bend.
